Lumpi Skin Disease:

 

1.It is caused byVIRUS called Capropoxvirus is threat to live stock world wide.

2.it is genetically related to goatpox and sheeppox virus family.

3.It infects cattle mainly through vectors such as blood-feeding insects.

4.LSD intitially discovered in 1992 at africa and parts of west asia.

5.The disease first attack india in 2022 that resulted in over 97000 cattles deaths in three months.


Symptoms:

1.The appearance of circular and firm nodes on the animal's hide or skin that look similar to lumps.

2.Excessive nasal and salivary secretion.

3.Affected animals difficult in eating and leading to reduce milk production.


Transmission:

1.It spreads through mosquitoes, flies and ticks and also through saliva and contaminated water and food.

NOTE: The Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO) Estimated that its mortality rate is less than 10%.

3.The disease is not zoonotic, meaning it does not spread from animals to humans, and humans cannot get infected with it.

Treatment:

1.No treatment is available for the disese so prevention by vaccination is the most effective means of control.

2.Successful control and eradication of LSD relies on 'early detection followed by a rapid and widespread vaccination campaign'.
